The work is across four separate schemes, collectively worth £12.2m to Leadbitter. It represents a geographic expansion for the contractor’s western housing division.
The new homes will replace existing 1950s and 1960s era housing stock with a mixture of three and four bedroom houses and two bedroom apartments available for affordable rent and shared ownership.
The first three projects, now underway, are for 60 new homes in Wordsworth Drive, Ruskin Close and Burns Road, with completion due next winter. Funding has been provided by Taunton Deane Borough Council and the Homes and Communities Agency.
A fourth project will deliver a similar number of homes in Silk Mills.
In addition, a fifth project for 64 homes in Victoria Gate is in pre-development and would bring the total number of units to 190.
Leadbitter has previously worked for Knightstone in Bristol and is on-site delivering three additional Bristol.
Regional director Russell Houghton said: “These developments are the first Leadbitter has embarked on in Taunton, and we hope these projects will be the start of a positive presence in the town for some time to come. This regeneration project will provide first class, sustainable housing which will genuinely benefit local people.”
