The new sports centre will replace the existing, out-dated Lapwing Centre and will include facilities for indoor and outdoor sports with fitness studios, basketball courts and a 3G all-weather football pitch. ե֭ of the new Brinnington sports centre starts in April 2017.
The development forms part of a wider regeneration in Brinnington, where Countryside is developing new housing in partnership with the council.
Councillor Sheila Bailey, Stockport Council’s executive member for communities and housing, said: “The new sports centre will create greater opportunities for participation in sport through high quality, affordable facilities, accessible to everyone. The significant investment required to build these new developments demonstrates the council’s confidence in and commitment to the future of Brinnington.”
Willmott Dixon managing director Anthony Dillon said: “We are delighted to be working with Stockport Council to provide a fantastic new sports centre for the community in Brinnington. Our focus on employing local companies and supporting apprentices will provide a great opportunity for local people to be involved with this exciting project.”
The new sports and leisure centre is expected to open early 2018.
