The University is replacing the existing Town House building on its Penrhyn Road campus with a new £55m building, which at 11,500m2 will be “the largest, most prestigious and most sustainable building that Kingston University has built to date”, the university says.
The building will house a library, dance studios and a 300-seat auditorium. Ground level will accommodate a cafe and the main campus reception and information desk.
In January 2014, Grafton Architects was commissioned through a Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) competition to design the scheme. Willmott Dixon has now won the £20m main construction contract.
Work is expected to start on site in spring 2016 and complete by the end of 2018.
