As well as a swimming pool, gym and sports hall, the new facility will have ‘flexible community facilities’ for public meetings, including a debating chamber.
Council leader George Dunning said that Willmott Dixon had “a sound track record of creating facilities that meet the needs of the community”.
Willmott Dixon managing director in the north, Anthony Dillon, said: “This regeneration heralds an exciting new future for Redcar, something that will make a genuine and lasting difference to the entire community.”
The contractor has committed to spending 83% of the 2012 budget for the scheme and 87% of the 2013 budget within a 60 mile radius of Redcar.
A fly through of the scheme is available to view at www.redcar-cleveland.gov.uk/regeneration.
